Clothing Stains
Soak your tough stains in a presoak product or liquid detergent. Let it soak for about 1 hour. Rinse and check your stain. If it’s still not gone yet try a stronger product. Be careful not to damage the fabric. If it’s white or colorfast, you can try a diluted solution of water and chlorine bleach. If it’s a more sensitive fabric you’ll need to try something else. Try a hidden seam first for tolerance.
Grass Stains
Pretreat your grass stain with your favorite stain remover. Let it soak in water for an hour or two. Put it in the washing machine and launder as usual. After it’s done, check to see if the stain is gone before you put it in the dryer. If you put it in the dryer and the stain is still there, you are going to permanently set the stain. If it’s still there, treat the stain again.
Blood Stains
It is important to treat blood stains as soon as possible. Use cold water and liquid laundry detergent. Warning, do not use hot or warm water. This will cook and set the blood stain into the fabric permanently. Pour a small amount of soap on the stain, and then gently rub it into the stain. Let it soak a few minutes in cold water.
Grease Stains
I usually don’t mention product names, but Dawn dish washing liquid works great for cutting grease. Gently rub the soap into the stain and let it soak in hot or warm water for a couple of hours, then wash as you normally do. As mentioned before, check to see if the stain is gone before you put it in the dryer. If it’s still there, repeat the process.
Tomato Sauce Stains
Tomato sauce stains can prove to be very difficult to remove. If it’s from a pasta sauce it could have a variety of ingredients in it. The main ingredient is tomato, which has a lot of acid. You can counteract the acid by pouring a little soda water on it first to loosen up the stain and to react with the acid. After that has worked on it for a few minutes, dip it in water. Now put your normal stain remover on it and let it soak. Once again, check to see if the stain is gone before you put it in the dryer. If it’s still there, repeat the process.
Tea or Coffee Stains
Tea or coffee stains can be tough. Pretreat with your regular presoak product. Let it soak for a while, and then wash as normal. Again, check to see if the stain is gone before you put it in the dryer. If it’s still there, repeat the process.
Red Wine or Grape Juice Stains
As with all stains, the best thing you can do is to act fast. Use soda water again while rubbing gently. The faster you can wash this better it will be. Don’t let the stain set in or it will be difficult to remove. Once again, check to see if the stain is gone before you put it in the dryer. If it’s still there, repeat the process.
